An explosion at the Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur (MCB) district has resulted in injuries to three workers, including two women. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon while a team was preparing for a routine blasting operation. According to officials, the blast happened unexpectedly as the workers were moving away from the site after laying explosives on the coal bed. Rock fragments and debris were propelled by the force of the explosion, striking the workers and nearby vehicles. The injured individuals were promptly transported to the SECL regional hospital in Kurasia, where they are reported to be in stable condition and are receiving treatment. Authorities suspect a technical fault may have caused the premature detonation, and an internal investigation has been launched to ascertain the precise cause. Operations at the mine have been temporarily suspended pending safety assessments and the completion of the probe.
