A significant fire incident disrupted operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon, leading to an immediate suspension of all air traffic. The blaze reportedly began near Gate 8 around 2:30 pm. Emergency services responded swiftly, with an initial deployment of nine firefighting units. This number rapidly increased to 28 units, with further reinforcements en route, to combat the flames effectively. Airport authorities confirmed that all aircraft remained safe and provided assurances that updates would be disseminated as the situation evolved. Fortunately, no casualties or substantial damage were reported in the immediate aftermath. Investigations into the fire’s origin are currently underway. The coordinated response involved multiple agencies, including the Civil Aviation Authority, Fire Service, Navy, and Air Force, bolstered by units from the Border Guard Bangladesh. The airport’s closure, expected until 6:00 pm, caused numerous flight diversions to Chattogram and Sylhet.
