A devastating train accident occurred near Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, resulting in the tragic loss of 11 lives and injuring numerous others. The incident involved a MEMU passenger train traveling from Gevra Road to Bilaspur, which collided with a stationary freight train. The impact was severe, with horrific images showing a passenger coach atop the freight wagons, highlighting the intensity of the collision. South East Central Railway confirmed the rising death toll and the number of injured. The accident took place in the South East Central Railway zone, between Gatora and Bilaspur stations, around 4 PM on the up line. Investigations are underway to determine the cause, with initial theories pointing towards potential signaling failures or human error leading to both trains occupying the same track. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep sorrow and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families, including Rs. 5 lakh for the deceased and Rs. 50,000 for the injured, along with free medical treatment. Operations have since resumed at the accident site.
