Indian cricket sensation Deepti Sharma recently shared a deeply personal and unforgettable moment from the women’s team’s visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence following their triumphant World Cup victory. The Player of the Tournament revealed that PM Modi specifically noticed her Lord Hanuman tattoo and her ‘Jai Shree Ram’ Instagram bio, a detail that left her feeling incredibly honored and seen.
“It was an amazing experience,” Sharma recounted, expressing her awe that the Prime Minister personally follows the team’s journeys. “He mentioned my Hanuman ji tattoo and said he saw my Instagram bio with ‘Jai Shree Ram’. Hearing that from such a great leader made me feel special. It’s unbelievable to think he actually follows us and knows about our lives.”
The historic meeting at Lok Kalyan Marg saw the victorious Indian women’s cricket team being congratulated by the Prime Minister. He commended their resilience and hard work, recalling a previous piece of advice he gave Sharma in 2017: “walk past failures and never stop working hard.” This guidance has evidently stayed with the star all-rounder throughout her career, providing motivation during challenging times.
Sharma elaborated on the significance of her Hanuman tattoo, explaining its connection to her inner strength. “I believe in him more than I believe in myself. Whenever I’m in a difficult situation, I take his name, and I feel like I can overcome anything,” she stated. The tattoo, combined with her spiritual bio, underscores how her faith anchors her competitive spirit.
Sharma’s exceptional performance at the World Cup was instrumental in India’s historic win. She amassed 215 runs and claimed 22 wickets, including a match-winning 5/39 in the final. Her all-round brilliance secured her the Player of the Tournament award and propelled her to fourth in the ODI all-rounder rankings. The celebratory gathering also included lighter moments, like Harleen Deol’s humorous query about the PM’s skincare, adding a touch of warmth to the occasion.
