A devastating blast near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday evening has led to a significant surge in security measures at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The explosion, which claimed multiple lives and injured many, occurred just kilometers from the venue hosting the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir. Authorities are prioritizing the safety of all individuals present at the stadium.
The high-intensity explosion reportedly originated from a vehicle near the Red Fort Metro Station, causing widespread panic. In response, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has collaborated with the Delhi Police to implement enhanced security protocols. This includes the deployment of additional police forces, the establishment of multiple checkpoints, and the reinforcement of screening equipment like metal detectors and baggage scanners. Quick response teams and bomb disposal units are also on standby.
Despite the heightened tension and the proximity of the incident, the Ranji Trophy match will continue as scheduled on its final day. Jammu & Kashmir is chasing a modest target, setting up a competitive finish. Players and officials are being urged to focus on the game while security personnel maintain a vigilant watch over the stadium and its surroundings.
Investigations into the blast’s cause are ongoing. While a significant terror module was busted in Faridabad earlier the same day, officials have indicated that the Red Fort explosion is not directly connected to that operation. The National Investigation Agency and forensic teams are assisting in the probe.
The tragic event has prompted outpourings of sorrow from the cricketing fraternity, with prominent figures expressing their condolences for the victims. The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in the capital, and enhanced vigilance is expected to persist across public and sporting events in Delhi.
