A fierce gun battle in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district has resulted in the deaths of six Naxalites. The encounter occurred around 10 am in the Indravati National Park region. Security forces, including the District Reserve Guard (DRG) from Bijapur and Dantewada, and the Special Task Force (STF), were conducting an anti-Naxalite operation based on intelligence indicating the presence of high-ranking Maoist leaders. The operation, which began with an exchange of fire, continued for several hours. Upon searching the site, authorities discovered the bodies of six Maoists along with sophisticated weaponry and explosives. Reinforcements from various security units, including Bastar Fighters, CRPF, and CAF, were deployed to secure the area and pursue any fleeing insurgents. The operation remains ongoing. This significant success is being hailed as a major step towards eradicating the Maoist insurgency in the state. In a separate incident in Bijapur, an injured Naxalite was apprehended following a confrontation in the Annaram village forest and has been hospitalized. This year alone, 259 Naxalites have been killed in Chhattisgarh, with a substantial number occurring in the Bastar division.
