Hazaribagh police have apprehended six individuals in a significant crackdown concerning a case of extortion targeting a local doctor. The arrested suspects, identified as Naved Khan alias Golu Khan, Salman Ansari, Abul Ansari, Afsar Ansari, Alok Kumar, and Satyam Kumar, were found in possession of a country-made pistol, eight live rounds of ammunition, a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle (registration number JH 02 AL-4873), and six mobile phones. The incident unfolded on the night of October 30th when the doctor, Ghulam Rabbani, received a threatening phone call demanding ten lakh rupees in extortion money from a specific mobile number. The gravity of the situation escalated on November 6th when the perpetrators fired upon a vehicle parked in the doctor’s residence. A case was registered at Barkatha police station, and a special investigation team was formed under the leadership of the Barhi Sub-Divisional Police Officer, following directives from Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan. This team, in collaboration with Barkatha and Gorhar police stations, conducted raids across various locations, leading to the successful apprehension of all involved criminals along with the weapon and ammunition used in the crime. The apprehended individuals have reportedly confessed to their involvement. Investigations also revealed that the same mobile number was used in a similar extortion attempt in Tatijharia police station area.
