Washington Sundar offered a perspective of resilience after India’s batting lineup faltered in the second Test against South Africa, conceding a significant first-innings deficit. The team found itself in a precarious position, trailing by a substantial 314 runs after being dismissed for a mere 201. Sundar emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive outlook despite the challenging circumstances, stating, ‘You never know what will happen.’
The Indian batters struggled against a disciplined South African bowling attack, with many falling victim to poor shot selection on a seemingly good batting surface. The collapse intensified as captain Rishabh Pant and wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel departed attempting aggressive shots against paceman Marco Jansen. Sundar defended these decisions, acknowledging that such risks can sometimes pay off. ‘On another day, both those shots would have gone into the stands,’ he remarked, highlighting the fine line between success and failure in cricket. ‘Obviously, execution didn’t go the way we wanted.’
