A serious accusation has been leveled against the Jharkhand state government, with opposition leader Babulal Marandi alleging that the administration is manufacturing new crimes to conceal existing ones. Marandi stated that the government and its systems have developed a disturbing habit of creating fresh offenses to obscure ongoing criminal activities within Jharkhand. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions in the coal sector of Dhanbad have brought to light alarming evidence. Most concerning is the revelation that some high-ranking police officials, benefiting financially from illicit coal trade, have allegedly tasked operatives with eliminating key figures connected to the coal mafia. This directive aims to silence individuals who could expose the truth. Information suggests that plots are being hatched to murder those currently being interrogated by the ED, ensuring that crucial information remains buried. This echoes a past pattern in the state where ‘encountering evidence’ was disguised as apprehending criminals. Jharkhand has a history of a DGP accused of orchestrating targeted killings for hire, facing allegations of unprecedented corruption even from ruling party members. The ED is urged to exercise extreme caution. In this environment, those who suppress truth, not those who speak it, wield power. When political power, the system, and criminal elements align, justice often becomes a mere formality.
