A serious allegation has been leveled against the Jharkhand government, with the state’s Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi, accusing the administration of creating new crimes to hide existing ones. Marandi stated that fabricating offenses to conceal actual criminal activities has become a modus operandi for the government and the system in Jharkhand. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions in the coal mafia’s stronghold in Dhanbad have brought to light alarming evidence. Most disturbingly, it is reported that certain ‘top police officials,’ allegedly profiting from illegal coal trade, have tasked coal mafia operatives with eliminating key individuals who are cooperating with the ED. This directive aims to permanently silence those providing crucial information. Marandi further revealed intelligence suggesting that individuals currently being interrogated by the ED are now targets for assassination to prevent the truth from emerging. He drew parallels to past incidents in the state where ‘encounter killings’ were allegedly staged to destroy evidence, likening it to a disturbing pattern of ‘evidence encounters’ rather than genuine law enforcement. Jharkhand has a history of such figures, including a former DGP accused of orchestrating contract killings and corruption to an unprecedented degree, accusations even echoed by members of the ruling party. Marandi cautioned the ED to exercise extreme vigilance, emphasizing that in this environment, it is those who suppress truth, not those who speak it, who hold sway. When power, the system, and criminal elements align, the perversion of justice becomes a mere formality.
