A serious accusation has been leveled against the Jharkhand state government, with BJP State President and Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi, alleging that the administration is fabricating new crimes to conceal existing criminal activities. Marandi stated that the government and its systems have developed a habit of creating new offenses to cover up the reality of crime in Jharkhand. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions in the coal mafia’s ‘black empire’ in Dhanbad have unearthed alarming evidence. The most disturbing revelation is that some top police officials, reportedly benefiting from illicit coal earnings, have allegedly tasked coal mafiosi with eliminating their lower-level associates permanently. This directive is reportedly aimed at preventing whistleblowers from exposing the truth. There are credible reports suggesting that individuals being interrogated by the ED are now targets for assassination, a sinister plot to bury incriminating evidence. This tactic of staging ‘encounter killings’ in the guise of apprehending criminals echoes past incidents in the state. Jharkhand has previously seen a Director General of Police accused of orchestrating contract killings and amassing unprecedented corruption, with even ruling party members making such allegations. The ED must exercise extreme caution, as in this state, it is those who suppress truth, not those who speak it, who hold power. When power, the system, and criminal elements align, the subversion of justice becomes a mere formality.
