In a sharp indictment, BJP State President and Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi, has accused the Jharkhand government of creating new crimes to conceal existing ones. Marandi stated that covering up offenses by manufacturing new incidents has become a disturbing pattern for the government and the administrative system in Jharkhand. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions in the coal mafia’s domain in Dhanbad have unearthed shocking evidence. Most alarmingly, top police officials, reportedly benefiting from illegal coal earnings, have allegedly tasked associates with ‘eliminating’ key operatives involved in the coal trade to suppress incriminating information. Sources indicate that individuals currently being questioned by the ED are also targets of assassination plots to prevent the truth from surfacing. This echoes past instances where ‘evidence encounters’ were staged under the guise of apprehending criminals. Jharkhand has previously witnessed a Director General of Police accused of orchestrating contract killings and engaging in unprecedented corruption, with even ruling party members levelling serious allegations. The ED is urged to exercise extreme caution, as the system here favors suppressing truth rather than revealing it. When power, the administration, and criminal elements align, justice often becomes a mere formality.
