Allegations have surfaced against the Jharkhand government, with state BJP chief Babulal Marandi accusing the administration of creating new crimes to conceal existing ones. Marandi stated that the government and its associated systems have developed a disturbing habit of fabricating offenses to hide criminal activities. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) actions in the coal underworld of Dhanbad have unearthed significant evidence. A particularly alarming revelation suggests that some high-ranking police officials, benefiting from illegal coal earnings, have tasked associates with eliminating ground-level operatives to prevent incriminating information from surfacing. There are credible reports indicating that individuals being questioned by the ED are now targets of assassination plots, designed to silence them and bury the truth. This echoes a historical pattern in the state where ‘evidence encounters’ were staged under the guise of apprehending criminals. Jharkhand has previously witnessed a Director General of Police accused of orchestrating contract killings and engaging in rampant corruption, with even ruling party members acknowledging his unprecedented graft. The ED is urged to exercise extreme caution, as in this region, those who suppress truth hold sway, not those who speak it. When power, the system, and criminal elements align, the suppression of justice becomes a mere formality.
