A high-ranking jailer stationed at Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Central Jail has been dismissed from service following an investigation that revealed he concealed his criminal conviction. Rahul Kashyap, who held the position of ‘Uchch Kakshpal’ (Senior Jailer), was found to have obtained his employment by not disclosing his status as a convicted individual. The Home and Jail Department has ordered that Kashyap will receive no further payments from the department.
The allegations against Kashyap centered on his successful application for the Senior Jailer post at the Hotwar jail in Ranchi, despite having a prior criminal record. Upon discovery of this discrepancy, the Jail Department promptly initiated an internal inquiry by forming a three-member committee. This committee conducted a thorough investigation and submitted its findings, conclusively proving Kashyap’s deception and recommending his termination.
The investigation committee’s report detailed the criminal case registered against Rahul Kashyap and the subsequent sentence he received. A case was filed against him on September 26, 2010, under charges including rape. Following a trial, the court sentenced him to ten years imprisonment. He served time as a convicted inmate at the Khunti Sub-Jail from April 22, 2014, to April 28, 2014. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Hotwar Jail in Ranchi on April 29, 2014.
