Papua New Guinea international cricketer Kiplin Doriga has received a three-year prison sentence for a robbery conviction on the island of Jersey. The 30-year-old wicketkeeper pleaded guilty to attacking a woman and stealing her mobile phone during the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League earlier this year. The incident occurred on Hilary Street in St Helier in the early hours of August 25th, as Doriga was returning to his hotel. According to police reports, Doriga approached the woman, struck her to the ground, and took her phone by force. The victim’s injuries have not been publicly detailed. Doriga was apprehended shortly after and subsequently charged with robbery. He appeared before Jersey Magistrate’s Court and entered a guilty plea on August 27th. The case proceeded to Jersey’s Royal Court, culminating in his sentencing on November 28th. Investigators highlighted the swift resolution of the case, noting the quick identification, arrest, and recovery of the stolen phone. This conviction underscores the importance of player accountability and raises questions about conduct during international sporting events.
