A viral video has highlighted a puzzling situation at Delhi Metro stations, showcasing lengthy queues at ticket counters while commuters overlook a readily available smart ticketing solution. The clip captures the frustration of passengers stuck in endless lines, seemingly oblivious to the fact that their own smartphones could offer a quick escape. The person filming the scene expresses bewilderment, noting the apparent rush of people yet their unwillingness to adopt a more efficient method. Ironically, nearly everyone in the throng is seen engrossed in their phones, scrolling through social media or messaging, unaware that these devices can facilitate ticket purchase in under a minute. Delhi Metro’s innovative WhatsApp-based ticketing service provides a seamless alternative to traditional counters, applicable at all 288 stations. To use this service, commuters simply need to save the official DMRC number (9650855800), send ‘Hi’ via WhatsApp, select English, and then choose ‘Buy Ticket.’ Users can then select their destination, purchase up to six tickets, and pay conveniently via UPI or card, receiving a QR ticket directly in their chat. This QR code can then be scanned at any metro gate, bypassing the queues entirely. This modern approach allows travelers to avoid the crowds and save valuable time, transforming the metro commute experience.
