India stands as a remarkable global example of unity in diversity, where people from various linguistic backgrounds, cultures, traditions, and lifestyles are bound together by a common spirit. This sentiment was expressed by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Wednesday during a joint celebration of Nagaland and Assam Statehood Day held at Lok Bhavan. The Governor noted that while Nagaland’s Statehood Day falls on December 1st and Assam’s on December 2nd, the event was celebrated concurrently due to his prior commitments outside the state. He lauded the residents from Nagaland and Assam living in Jharkhand, acknowledging their diligent work, dedication, and talent as significant contributors to the state’s development. Gangwar highlighted that these two northeastern states beautifully represent the rich cultural heritage, natural splendor, and artistic expressions of Northeast India. Speaking on the significance of Northeast India, he emphasized its crucial role in national security, environmental conservation, cultural preservation, and maintaining national integrity. The region’s biodiversity, traditional knowledge, tribal customs, music, handicrafts, and immense tourism potential are indeed the pride of the nation. Recalling Assam’s distinct identity, the Governor described it as the land of the red river and blue hills, celebrated for its folk art, literature, music, and history. Iconic landmarks like the Kamakhya Temple, the Brahmaputra River, the vibrant Bihu dance, and its world-renowned tea plantations further define its unique character. Describing Nagaland as the ‘land of festivals,’ he pointed out that its traditional music, attire, exquisite handicrafts, and the famous Hornbill Festival are symbols of the state’s rich cultural legacy and pride. Governor Gangwar also commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative, stating that this campaign has powerfully strengthened cultural dialogue and mutual understanding among India’s diverse states. He further expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s decision to rename all Raj Bhavans as Lok Bhavans. Concluding the event, the Governor wished for the continued progress of Nagaland and Assam, and for their cultural identities to gain even greater global recognition. He urged everyone to uphold the resolve for unity, harmony, and nation-building. Earlier, Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Nitin Madan Kulkarni, extended establishment day greetings to the citizens of both states, specifically mentioning the contributions of renowned Assamese musicians Bhupen Hazarika and Zubin Garg, and the significance of Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival to Indian culture and music.
