The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is launching a new annual FASTag pass system on August 15th. This pass aims to reduce toll costs for people across the country on National Highways and Expressways. Individuals can purchase this pass from August 15th and benefit from it, but there are a few important points to keep in mind before buying the pass.
Those purchasing the pass will need to pay a one-time fee of ₹3,000. Subsequently, they will be able to cross tolls 200 times or for a year. With this pass, the average toll cost will be ₹15 per toll, which is significantly lower than the current cost, which often exceeds ₹50 per toll. Considering ₹50 per toll, crossing 200 tolls would incur a charge of ₹10,000. However, with this pass, only ₹3,000 will be charged, leading to a direct saving of ₹7,000.
Important Considerations:
1. The FASTag annual pass is exclusively available to owners of private vehicles, such as jeeps, cars, and vans. This facility will not be extended to bus, truck, or other taxi owners.
2. The pass can only be used for the vehicle for which it was purchased and cannot be transferred. The pass is valid for a single registered vehicle only.
3. This annual pass is applicable only on National Highways and Expressways of NHAI or the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Tolls will need to be paid separately on state or municipal roads. This excludes state expressways.
4. The annual pass is non-refundable after purchase. There is no option to get a refund once the pass is purchased. You will need to pay again and purchase the pass once its validity expires.
How to Purchase the Pass:
To purchase the pass, you must log in to the Highway Yatra app or the NHAI or MoRTH website using your vehicle number and FASTag ID. Ensure that the FASTag is active and correctly installed. You can pay ₹3,000 online using UPI, debit or credit cards, or net banking.
