The vehicles used by world leaders, like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are designed to provide the highest levels of security. Initially, after his swearing-in ceremony in 2014, he used a Mahindra Scorpio. However, his security detail was upgraded, and he began using a BMW 7 Series. Here’s a closer look at the vehicles Prime Minister Modi has used over the years.
First, the BMW 760Li High Security Edition was the official car. These high-security versions were heavily armored and capable of withstanding high-caliber attacks, including those from weapons like the AK-47, and featuring underbody armor. This car was designed for comfort and superior driving dynamics, equipped with run-flat tires, allowing it to be driven at up to 80 km/h even if damaged. The 760Li had a 6.0-litre V12 engine, delivering around 544 BHP and 750 Nm of torque, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 210 km/h.
Soon after, the Prime Minister transitioned to the Range Rover Sentinel. Custom-made to meet specific Indian state requirements, it made its first public appearance on the 71st Independence Day. It is built to withstand assaults, including landmines and IEDs. Its run-flat tires allow it to be driven at speeds up to 80 km/h, even when damaged, and can cover over 50 km without issue. The Sentinel is powered by a 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 petrol engine, delivering 380 PS. Despite the armor, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds and has a top speed limited to 193 km/h.
Land Cruisers are another integral part of India’s high-security vehicle fleet used by the Prime Minister. The armored version was first seen during his Independence Day speech at the Red Fort in 2019. It may be powered by a 4.5-litre V8 engine, delivering an output of 260 HP and 650 Nm of torque.
The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard, which debuted in 2021, is certified with the highest ballistic standard, VR10. The sedan can withstand armor-piercing bullets and TNT attacks, featuring fortified fuel tank seals and the option of satellite phones, jammers, and emergency oxygen canisters. It is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine producing 630 BHP.
