The Indian government has successfully rolled out 20% ethanol-blended petrol (E20) across the nation, achieving the target ahead of the initially set deadline of 2030. Building on this, the government is now preparing to introduce blended diesel, similar to E20 petrol. However, instead of ethanol, the blended diesel will incorporate isobutanol, a derivative of ethanol.
Previous attempts to mix ethanol with diesel were unsuccessful. Therefore, the government is now experimenting with isobutanol. This process is currently in the experimental phase, as confirmed by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in a recent statement.
