The Delhi government is set to begin seizing older vehicles from July 1st that have exceeded their permissible age limit. This initiative, mandated by the Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM), targets vehicles at fuel stations and public spaces. Owners of vehicles deemed End of Life (EOL) will face penalties. Petrol vehicles over 15 years old and diesel vehicles over 10 years old from their registration date will be classified as EOL. Impounded vehicles will be sent to registered scrapping facilities. Those wishing to move their vehicle out of Delhi must obtain a No Objection Certificate within a year of the vehicle’s registration expiry. Five other NCR districts will implement similar measures starting November 1st, with fuel stations in these areas denying fuel to EOL vehicles from April 1, 2026. Enforcement agencies will conduct regular checks to remove EOL vehicles, and daily reports will be submitted to the department for CAQM. Delhi currently has 62 lakh EOL vehicles, including 41 lakh two-wheelers.
