Tesla, led by Elon Musk, has delivered its first Model Y in India, marking a significant milestone following the opening of its inaugural showroom in Mumbai on July 15. A video shared on X showcases the white Tesla Model Y being handed over to Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik at the Tesla Experience Centre in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex. Minister Sarnaik expressed his pride in receiving the vehicle, stating he purchased it at the full price. He plans to use the car to transport his grandson to school to promote electric vehicles and encourage their adoption. The exact model delivered, whether the standard Model Y or the Long Range variant, remains unclear. The RWD model starts at Rs 59.89 lakh, while the Long Range RWD is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh. Purvesh, the minister’s son, mentioned their excitement about the purchase and their intention to use the car for various family activities. He highlighted the growing momentum of electric vehicles in India, emphasizing their sustainability, zero emissions, and contribution to a cleaner environment, along with plans for more charging points to facilitate EV usage.
