The government has provided significant relief to those purchasing new cars and bikes. Due to the new GST rates implemented on the first day of Navratri 2025 (September 22nd), cars and bikes have become more affordable. The GST on hatchback models has been reduced by 10 percent. Previously, hatchbacks were charged 28 percent GST, but now only 18 percent GST will be levied. Not only hatchbacks, but SUVs and bikes will also now be charged 18 percent GST instead of 28 percent.
Cars with engines less than 1200cc petrol or less than 1500cc diesel and less than 4 meters in length have seen a reduction in GST from 28 to 18 percent. While all other cars will be charged 40 percent GST. Additionally, the GST on bikes and scooters with engines less than 350cc has also decreased.
Companies are passing on the benefits of the GST rate revisions to customers, resulting in entry-level cars becoming cheaper by up to Rs 40,000, and premium SUVs by up to Rs 30 lakh. Several manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki to Range Rover have reduced car prices, and Honda to Royal Enfield have lowered bike prices.
