The mid-size SUV segment continues to be a top-selling category in the Indian market. August 2025 sales figures reveal the segment’s growing popularity. While some models show strong year-over-year growth, others experience declines. Hyundai Creta once again secured the number one position, selling 15,924 units last month. Although this represents a 5% decrease compared to the 16,762 units sold in August 2024, the Creta maintains its dominance as the best-selling mid-size SUV in the country, a position it has held consistently for several years. Scorpio secured the second position with 9,840 units dispatched in August 2025. However, this model’s sales saw a significant 29% decline compared to the 13,787 units sold during the same month last year. Toyota Hyryder claimed third place with a remarkable 39% year-over-year increase. Sales rose to 9,100 units, up from 6,534 in August 2024. The hybrid version of the Hyryder plays a vital role in boosting demand, particularly as consumers increasingly favor hybrid powertrains. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara slipped to fourth place with 5,743 units, down 36% from the 9,021 units sold a year earlier. Similarly, Mahindra’s XUV700 experienced an even greater decline, dropping 45% year-over-year. Sales of this SUV reached only 4,956 units, down from 9,007 units in August 2024. Kia Seltos secured the sixth position, with sales down 28% to 4,687 units compared to 6,536 units last year. Meanwhile, it was a mixed month for Tata, with Harrier sales up 63% to 3,087 units, while Curvv sales declined by 51% to 1,703 units. Honda Elevate and Tata Safari occupied the bottom two spots. Elevate sold 1,660 units, a 4% decrease from last year, while Safari sales decreased by 24% to 1,489 units.
