Jaguar and Land Rover are experiencing a complete production standstill, now in its third week, following a cyberattack on September 1. The incident has severely impacted the brand’s global operations, leading to shutdowns in production, parts ordering, and retail activities. The disruption is estimated to be costing the company approximately Rs 60 crore per day.
The initial impact of the attack was felt by dealers, who were unable to book vehicles. The brand acknowledged the issue on September 2 and initiated system shutdowns to contain the breach.
The hacker group, Scattered Lapsus$, has taken responsibility for the cyberattack, which also targeted the retail chain Marks and Spencer earlier this year. JLR has confirmed that customer data was compromised, prompting police and cybersecurity experts to assist in restoring operations. Production is expected to remain halted until at least September 24. The supply chain is also severely impacted, with some suppliers potentially facing bankruptcy. In a recent interview, Aston Martin’s CEO warned of potential layoffs.
