Kawasaki has significantly reduced the price of the KLX 230 in India. Originally priced at ₹3.33 lakh, the motorcycle now costs ₹1.99 lakh ex-showroom, representing a price reduction of ₹1.30 lakh. This adjustment positions the KLX 230 as a competitive option in the off-roader segment, directly challenging the Hero Xpulse 200.
This price reduction stems from Kawasaki’s decision to manufacture the KLX 230 in India. The company confirms that the motorcycle’s specifications remain unchanged. It retains all the features that define it as a capable dual-sport machine.
The ‘Made in India’ Kawasaki KLX 230 features telescopic suspension at the front and a monoshock suspension at the rear, offering travel capacities of approximately 240mm and 250mm, respectively. The motorcycle rides on a 21-18 wire-spoke wheel setup, contributing to a ground clearance of 265mm. The KLX 230 is equipped with disc brakes on both ends and a 7.6-liter fuel tank.
The motorcycle is powered by an older-style, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. The 233cc engine, paired with a 6-speed gearbox, produces 18 bhp and 18 Nm of torque. While the engine specifications might seem modest, the combination of the engine, the KLX 230’s 136 kg weight, and the long-travel suspension setup make it a highly capable off-roader.
In India, the closest competitor to the Kawasaki KLX 230 is the Hero Xpulse 200. Priced at ₹1.75 lakh ex-showroom, the Xpulse 200 offers a similar setup with long-travel suspension at both ends, providing 210mm of travel at the front and 205mm at the rear. It also features the same 21-18 wire-spoke wheel setup, a high fender, a sleek design, and disc brakes on both ends with dual-channel ABS.
The Xpulse 200 houses a 200cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that generates 24 bhp and 21 Nm of torque, coupled with a 6-speed gearbox. Although the engine specifications favor the Xpulse 200 in terms of power, the Xpulse is relatively heavier, weighing in at 170 kg, significantly more than the KLX.
