The upcoming Kia Syros EV has been sighted undergoing testing in India for the first time. The model was observed at a charging station in Kochi, with its design concealed under camouflage. The visible design elements, including the window line, roof rails, pillars, shark fin antenna, and body-colored ORVMs, closely resemble those of its ICE counterpart. Even the front and rear lighting appears unchanged.
Minor design alterations are anticipated for the EV, such as adjustments to the grille and the inclusion of a charging port on the front. The EV may also feature EV badging on the exterior and green brake calipers, as seen in previous test models. The dimensions of this compact electric SUV are expected to remain consistent.
Interior modifications are also likely. The Kia Syros EV could incorporate new trim and upholstery, along with an instrument cluster featuring EV-specific software. The feature kit will likely mirror that of its ICE-powered version, aiming to make it a segment leader in terms of features and space.
Specifics regarding the Syros EV’s battery pack remain undisclosed. However, reports suggest it might share its powertrain with the Hyundai Exter EV, slated for a 2026 launch in India. Globally, the Exter EV offers two NMC battery pack options: 42kWh and 49kWh, potentially providing ranges of 300 km and 355 km, respectively.
Upon launch, the Kia Syros EV will compete with models like the MG ZS EV and Tata Punch EV. It is projected to be one of the most affordable electric cars in India, with prices estimated to start around ₹14 lakh for the base variant and potentially reaching ₹20 lakh for the top-end trim. Currently, the Kia Carens Clavis EV is the most affordable electric SUV from Kia in India, priced between ₹17.99 lakh and ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
