The use of E20 fuel is generating considerable discussion. In response, Nalinikant Gollagunta, Head of the Automotive Division at Mahindra & Mahindra, recently clarified that E20 fuel is completely safe and will not harm vehicles. However, he acknowledged that it would reduce vehicle mileage. The company is preparing to release detailed advisories for its customers in the coming week.
Concerns are highest regarding older vehicle models. Experts suggest that older vehicles might need replacement of certain rubber parts, seals, and gaskets. The government states this is a straightforward process, yet it could impose additional costs on ordinary vehicle owners.
The central government has made it clear that ethanol blending will continue. The primary reasons are reducing reliance on crude oil imports, supporting sugarcane farmers, and cutting carbon emissions. Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari dismissed criticisms circulating on social media, labeling them politically motivated.
Technically, there is not much controversy regarding E20, but the main challenge lies in consumer confidence. Conflicting statements from automakers have further confused the public. Mahindra’s transparent stance and the upcoming advisory could alleviate customer concerns.
