A SpiceJet passenger endured an unfortunate experience during a flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru, finding themselves trapped in the aircraft’s lavatory for the duration of the journey. The airline has since issued an apology and offered compensation to the affected passenger, though the incident has generated widespread amusement and disbelief. The passenger was eventually freed after the plane landed at Bengaluru airport, when ground staff and engineers were able to force the door open, which had malfunctioned mid-flight and become jammed.
The event unfolded on a Monday night. The Mumbai-Bengaluru flight departed two hours behind schedule, finally taking off from Mumbai at 2:10 AM, despite its scheduled departure time of 10:55 PM. Shortly after takeoff, a passenger seated in seat 14D entered the restroom, only to discover that the door lock had malfunctioned, trapping them inside. The crew attempted to unlock the door, but were unsuccessful.
To offer some comfort, the crew slipped a handwritten note under the door, advising the passenger to remain seated until the plane landed in Bengaluru. The note and the situation quickly went viral on social media. Many users expressed amusement, while others commented on the neat handwriting. The flight landed in Bengaluru at approximately 3:45 AM. Upon landing, an airport engineer was able to open the door. SpiceJet has expressed regret and apologized for the distress caused.
