A modified Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, prepared by Mid Life Cycles, has achieved a top speed exceeding 212.51 km/h, setting a new speed record. This remarkable feat was accomplished by transforming a standard Interceptor into a high-speed dragster. The bike surpassed the existing four-year-old class record, clocking in at 132.050 MPH (212.514 km/h). Rider Charlie Hallam showcased the bike’s potential, reaching approximately 121.782 MPH on the first day of competition. The transformation involved extensive modifications, developed during Royal Enfield’s Busted Knuckles build off in 2019.
Key modifications included a balanced crankshaft with lighter, polished rods, a modified gearbox to minimize friction, and an increased compression ratio of 11:1 requiring 98 RON fuel. Further enhancements were made to the combustion chamber and ports, incorporating a 1.5mm oversized inlet and a racing camshaft. The bike also received a lengthened swingarm, Ohlins suspension, lightened alloy wheels, custom sprockets, and clip-on handlebars for improved aerodynamics.
