A SpiceJet flight passenger endured an embarrassing experience during a Mumbai to Bengaluru flight, finding themselves trapped in the lavatory for the duration of the journey. The airline has since apologized and reportedly offered compensation. The incident, which has left many in disbelief, unfolded when the passenger became locked inside the restroom mid-flight.
The passenger was eventually freed after the plane landed in Bengaluru. Ground staff and engineers promptly responded, forcing the toilet door open after it malfunctioned and became locked.
The incident occurred on a Monday night flight, which departed Mumbai two hours behind schedule. The plane took off at 2:10 AM, though its scheduled departure was 10:55 PM.
Shortly after takeoff, a passenger seated in 14D entered the lavatory but was unable to exit due to a jammed door lock. This triggered a mid-air situation as the passenger attempted to get out, and the crew tried to unlock the door. The crew slipped a handwritten note under the door, advising the distressed passenger to remain seated on the toilet seat until the aircraft landed in Bengaluru.
Photos of the crew’s note quickly spread on social media, generating amusement among users, with some complimenting the penmanship.
The flight landed in Bengaluru at approximately 3:45 AM. Upon landing, an airport engineer intervened and opened the door. SpiceJet has expressed its regret for the incident and offered an apology to the passenger.
