A SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru experienced an unusual incident when a passenger found themselves locked inside the lavatory for the duration of the flight. The airline has since apologized and reportedly offered compensation, but the situation has sparked widespread amusement online.
The passenger was eventually freed after the plane landed in Bengaluru. Ground staff and engineers promptly intervened to open the malfunctioning toilet door.
The incident occurred on Monday night. The Mumbai-Bengaluru flight departed from Mumbai Airport at 2:10 AM, despite a scheduled departure time of 10:55 PM.
The passenger, seated in 14D, entered the restroom shortly after takeoff but was unable to open the jammed door, leading to a mid-air predicament. The crew attempted to assist, but the lock remained stuck.
To console the distressed passenger, the crew slipped a handwritten note under the door, advising them not to panic and to remain seated until arrival in Bengaluru. The note’s image circulated on social media, drawing humorous reactions, with many users commenting on the crew member’s handwriting.
The flight landed in Bengaluru around 3:45 AM. Engineers subsequently opened the lavatory door. The airline has expressed its regret for the incident and apologized to the passenger for the inconvenience.
