A SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru experienced an unusual incident when a passenger found themselves locked in the aircraft’s restroom for the duration of the flight. The airline has since apologized and reportedly offered compensation, but the incident has sparked considerable online discussion. The passenger was eventually freed after the plane landed in Bengaluru, with ground staff and engineers intervening to force the malfunctioning door open.
The incident unfolded on a Monday night, as the flight took off from Mumbai Airport after a two-hour delay. Shortly after takeoff, a passenger seated in seat 14D entered the lavatory. They were unable to exit due to a jammed door lock, leading to a challenging situation mid-air. Despite attempts by the passenger and crew to unlock the door, they were unsuccessful.
To provide some comfort, the crew passed a handwritten note under the door, advising the passenger to remain seated on the toilet until the plane landed in Bengaluru. The note and the situation quickly gained attention on social media, with many users finding humor in the situation and commenting on the crew’s handwriting.
The flight landed in Bengaluru around 3:45 AM. Airport engineers then opened the door. SpiceJet has expressed regret for the inconvenience and has issued an apology to the affected passenger.
