The Tata Nexon compact SUV achieved a remarkable feat in September 2025. It outperformed vehicles from industry giants like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, and Hyundai, claiming the title of India’s best-selling passenger vehicle. With a record sale of 22,573 units in September, the Nexon not only secured the top position but also established the highest monthly sales record for any car in Tata Motors’ history.
The surge in Nexon sales was significantly influenced by the implementation of GST 2.0. The tax reduction led to a price decrease of up to Rs 1.55 lakh. Additionally, the company introduced several customer offers. The starting price of the Nexon is now only Rs 7.32 lakh (ex-showroom), making it even more affordable.
The Nexon has been a strong contender in the compact SUV segment for a considerable period. It saw sales of 1.24 lakh units in FY22, 1.72 lakh units in FY23, and 1.71 lakh units in FY24. Despite a slight dip to 1.63 lakh units in FY25, demand remained robust. In the first six months of FY26 alone, approximately 90,000 units were sold.
A key strength of the Nexon is its availability in four fuel types: petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric. The petrol version features a 1.2L turbo engine with 120bhp, offered with 5MT/6MT/6AMT/7DCA gearboxes. The diesel version has a 1.5L engine generating 115bhp and 260Nm of torque. The CNG variant uses a 1.2L engine with 100bhp and a 6MT gearbox. The electric version (Nexon.ev) offers 30kWh (350km range) and 45kWh (489km range) battery options, catering to a wide range of customers.
The Nexon’s safety features are a major selling point. All petrol, diesel, and EV versions have received a 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP. Key features include LED projector headlamps, ventilated seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, a voice-controlled sunroof, wireless charging, 6 airbags, ESP, a 360° camera, a blind-spot monitor, tire pressure alert, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, and cornering fog lamps.
Due to the strong performance of the Nexon, Tata Motors recorded its highest monthly sales ever in September 2025, reaching 60,907 units. The company’s Q2 FY26 sales reached 1.44 lakh units, a 10% increase compared to the previous year. The EV segment also saw a record, with 24,855 electric vehicles sold, constituting 17% of the total PV sales. Furthermore, exports experienced a 411% increase.
With its affordable price, availability in four fuel options, excellent safety features, and modern features, the Nexon has become Tata Motors’ most reliable car. Its success in September 2025 once again proved Tata Nexon’s dominance in the Indian compact SUV market.
