The Indian automotive market is home to numerous SUVs, with Mahindra’s offerings being particularly popular. However, a decline in Mahindra’s sales was observed in August, while other SUVs experienced growth. Mahindra Scorpio sold 9,840 units last month, marking a 29% decrease year-over-year from the 13,787 units sold in August 2024. In contrast, the Tata Nexon emerged as the top performer, leading the sales charts with 14,004 units. This represents a 14% increase year-over-year and a 9% increase month-over-month. The Nexon’s robust growth in the compact SUV sector indicates its rising popularity, surpassing even the Scorpio in sales figures. The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is priced approximately between ₹13.77 lakh to ₹17.72 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Scorpio N starts from ₹13.99 lakh. The Scorpio is a 7-seater compact SUV available with a 2.2L diesel engine and manual transmission. Key features include dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, steering-wheel-mounted controls, and LED roof lighting, with manual central locking. The Tata Nexon is priced between ₹8.3 lakh and ₹17.2 lakh (ex-showroom) and offers petrol, diesel, and CNG engine options. It boasts a 5-star BNCAP safety rating and comes equipped with 6 airbags, a panoramic sunroof, and a JBL sound system. The Nexon has a ground clearance of 208 mm, a 382-liter boot space, and a 44-liter fuel tank capacity, with a mileage ranging from 16.75 to 22.3 km per liter.
