Tesla is rapidly expanding its presence in the Indian electric vehicle market, with the upcoming launch of its second retail center in the country. The new Tesla Experience Centre is scheduled to open on August 11 at the WorldMark 3 campus in Aerocity, Delhi. This location is intended to serve customers in the National Capital Region, a key area for the advancement of EVs in India.
The new center’s opening comes shortly after the inauguration of Tesla’s first showroom in India, which opened in Mumbai’s Maker Maxity Mall on July 15. The Mumbai launch was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who welcomed Tesla and encouraged the company to establish research & development and manufacturing facilities in the state. The Aerocity center is nearing completion, with an estimated monthly rent of around Rs 25 lakh. Images of the outlet have been circulating on social media, reflecting Tesla’s premium branding. Currently, Tesla offers only the Model Y in India, with prices starting at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Model Y is available in two variants: the Standard rear-wheel drive with a 60 kWh battery and a 500 km WLTP-certified range, and the Long-range rear-wheel drive with a 75 kWh battery offering a range of up to 622 km. Tesla is prioritizing deliveries to customers in cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, where vehicles will be delivered directly to homes via flat-bed trucks. Tesla has updated its website to enable vehicle registration across all states and union territories, broadening its reach. The Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature is listed as an optional extra for Rs 6 lakh on the website, though its rollout in India is planned for a later date. The launch of the Model Y also marks the unveiling of Tesla’s India website, indicating the company’s dedication to expanding its operations in India, notwithstanding the hurdles related to EV policy and infrastructure.
