Tesla is poised to strengthen its presence in India’s electric vehicle market by opening a second retail centre in the country. The new Tesla Experience Centre will launch on August 11 at the WorldMark 3 campus in Aerocity, Delhi. This location will serve customers in the National Capital Region, a crucial area for India’s EV initiatives.
The Aerocity centre’s opening comes shortly after the inauguration of Tesla’s first showroom in Mumbai, which took place on July 15 at the Maker Maxity Mall. The Mumbai launch was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He welcomed Tesla to the state and encouraged the company to establish R&D and manufacturing facilities.
The Aerocity centre is currently in the final stages of construction, with an estimated monthly rent of approximately Rs 25 lakh. Images of the outlet have been circulating on social media, reflecting the brand’s premium image. Tesla currently offers only the Model Y in India, with prices beginning at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Model Y is available in two variants:
* Standard rear-wheel drive, equipped with a 60 kWh battery and a WLTP-certified range of 500 km.
* Long-range rear-wheel drive, featuring a 75 kWh battery and a range of up to 622 km.
Deliveries of the Model Y are being prioritized for customers in cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, where vehicles will be delivered directly to homes via flat-bed trucks.
Tesla has also updated its website, enabling vehicle registration across all states and union territories, thereby broadening its reach beyond the initial cities.
The full self-driving (FSD) feature is listed as an optional extra on the website, priced at Rs 6 lakh, with its rollout in India planned for a later date.
The Model Y launch coincides with the launch of Tesla’s India website, signaling the company’s dedication and intention to expand operations in India despite existing hurdles related to EV policies and infrastructure.
