July 2025 wasn’t a particularly strong month for the Indian automotive sector. A total of 3,46,669 units were sold, a slight increase compared to the 3,43,026 units sold in July 2024. Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra remained market leaders, while Hyundai and Tata Motors experienced sales declines of approximately 10.3% and 11.6%, respectively. However, the Hyundai Creta was the best-selling SUV of the month. The Creta continued to be a favorite among SUV buyers, topping the list with 16,898 units sold, slightly down from 17,350 units in the same month last year. Despite this minor decrease, it surpassed Maruti Brezza and Mahindra Scorpio (Scorpio N + Scorpio Classic), which secured second and third positions, respectively. Maruti Suzuki sold 14,065 units of the Brezza in July 2025. Mahindra sold 13,747 units of the Scorpio. Brezza’s sales saw a modest 4% year-on-year decline, while the Scorpio experienced a healthy 12% increase. Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx was the fourth best-selling SUV, with sales of 12,872 units, compared to 10,925 units in July 2024, representing an 18% increase. Following closely in the top 10 SUV list were Tata Nexon and Punch, with sales of 12,825 and 10,785 units, respectively. However, both models experienced significant sales declines compared to the same month last year. Mahindra Thar was the seventh best-selling SUV in July 2025, with sales of 9,845 units. The off-road SUV recorded a 125% year-on-year increase. Toyota Hyryder mid-size SUV, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet compact SUV occupied the eighth, ninth, and tenth positions, respectively. TKM sold 8,814 units of the Hyryder compared to 7,419 units in July 2024, showing a 19% year-on-year increase. Sales of Venue and Sonet declined by 9% and 19%, respectively.
