TVS has once again secured the top position in electric two-wheeler sales. The company sold the highest number of EV two-wheelers in September. Following TVS, Bajaj, known for its Chetak scooter, claimed the second spot. Notably, Ather Energy surpassed Ola Electric. According to Vahan’s retail sales data, Ather sold approximately 16,558 units last month, while Ola’s sales declined to 12,223 units. During the same period, TVS led with 21,052 units, and Bajaj Chetak secured the second position with sales of 17,972 units.
Ather has been striving to break into the top three for a while, consistently falling short by a small margin each month. Nevertheless, the company has rapidly strengthened its position, with a significant portion of its sales now originating from outside South India. Ather claims to hold the number one position in all southern states. Its major markets outside the South include Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. The company has focused on Middle India, expanding its outlets from 49 in March 2024 to 109 recently.
Ola’s sales have been steadily decreasing. Ather’s total sales are primarily driven by the Rizta electric family scooter, accounting for approximately 70% of its sales. The company’s current goal is to surpass Bajaj Auto and secure the second position, with a difference of approximately 1,500 units between the two brands. In contrast, Ola Electric’s sales have been consistently declining since the beginning of the year. Initially, the company attributed the decline to registration-related issues, but the downward trend has persisted.
Hero MotoCorp’s Vida made significant gains in September, selling 11,856 units. This placed it close to Ola Electric. Vida’s recent Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme has boosted sales by reducing the initial cost of e-scooters.
