Adani’s 3,200 MW Thermal Plant Marks Historic Turn for Northeast Power

The inauguration of Adani Power’s 3,200 MW thermal plant in Assam’s Dhubri district marks a historic milestone for the Northeast’s power sector. Jeet Adani, director of the Adani Group, described the facility as a linchpin for the region’s energy security, capable of delivering large‑scale electricity to both local grids and distant markets.

The plant, valued at Rs 48,000 crore, is expected to become the largest power‑generation project in the North‑East, reducing reliance on imported power and stabilizing supply during peak demand periods. The development comes as Assam seeks to position itself as the country’s “battery” – a source of reliable energy that can be tapped nationwide.

Adani highlighted the extensive employment prospects the project brings, stating that 4,500 local youths have already been hired and that the total employment impact could rise to 40,000 when all ancillary activities are considered. The initiative also supports the group’s broader commitment to invest Rs 1 lakh crore across the region over the next decade.

State officials lauded the project for its potential to spur infrastructure upgrades, attract further private investment, and stimulate growth in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, and services, thereby reinforcing Assam’s emerging status as a strategic economic hub.
