Adani Energy Gets ₹8,500 Crore Transmission Deal in Andhra, Boosting Green Hydrogen
Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) disclosed on Friday that it has won an ₹8,500 crore interstate transmission contract in Andhra Pradesh. The agreement will supply power to upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag region, where power demand is projected at roughly 4,500 GW.
The project was allocated through a tariff‑based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework, with AESL emerging as the most competitive offerer. AESL intends to commission the transmission network within the next thirty months.
According to CEO Kandarpa Patel, the Vizag transmission initiative is a strategic move toward establishing an energy backbone essential for India’s next‑generation industrial surge. It will foster the state’s green‑hydrogen and ammonia development while fortifying the grid to meet the expanding digital infrastructure demand of the Pendurthi‑Vizag corridor.
Vizag is rapidly positioning itself as a principal digital hub, propelled by expansive AI applications, hyper‑scale data centre construction, planned subsea connectivity, logistics frameworks, and clean‑energy industrial projects. AESL’s commitment to a robust, future‑proof transmission network is designed to enable large‑scale, sustainable progress across these domains.
The project will be executed under a Special Purpose Vehicle named Vizag Power Transmission Ltd, adding 1,582 km of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity. This will bring AESL’s total network to 29,531 km and 133,675 MVA, solidifying its rank as India’s largest private transmission company.
As green‑molecule production and data‑centre activity intensify, a dependable high‑capacity transmission infrastructure becomes indispensable for grid stability and enduring industrial competitiveness.
