Ancient Wisdom Meets AI: Varanasi Symposium Opens Nov 2
Ancient philosophical traditions and modern technology will share the stage in Varanasi when the Aristotle-Confucius Symposium 2026 opens on November 2. The three-day international conference runs through November 4 and is designed to foster dialogue among the world's major civilizational and philosophical systems.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the event, while Dr. Preeti Adani, Founder and Chairperson of the Adani Foundation, will deliver a special address.
Bringing Scholars and Thinkers Together
The symposium will bring together diverse knowledge traditions, educational institutions, thinkers, and experts. Artificial intelligence will be incorporated into the proceedings to help simplify communication across languages and traditions, with the goal of deepening mutual understanding among cultures and ideologies.
A Civilizational Perspective
Chief Minister Adityanath is expected to speak about India's civilizational heritage, which stretches back more than five thousand years, and the continuous tradition of Hinduism known widely as Sanatan Dharma.
Dr. Preeti Adani will address the gathering on November 2 at 9 AM.
A City Built on Knowledge
Varanasi was selected for its status as one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. For centuries, its location on the Ganga has made it a center of education, philosophy, spiritual reflection, and pilgrimage. The city also brings together Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain knowledge traditions in a rare way.
Addressing Global Challenges
An official statement said the symposium is based on the view that pressing global problems, including geopolitical tensions, environmental crises, and technological transformation, cannot be solved by technology alone. Strong moral values and better understanding between cultures are also needed.
The discussions will compare Aristotelian, Confucian, Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Catholic, Islamic, and other philosophical perspectives, with particular focus on virtue-based ethics, good governance, and the ethical use of power.
Programme Highlights
Main sessions on November 2 and 3 will feature expert lectures, thematic discussions, comparative philosophy, and debates on global governance and peace. November 4 will be devoted to cultural exploration.
Participants will take part in Ganga ghat visits, the Ganga Aarti, temple visits, and a trip to Sarnath, gaining firsthand exposure to Varanasi's living heritage.
