Anthropic's IPO Filing: Rapid Growth, Deepening Losses

Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, has applied to list its shares in the United States, setting the stage for one of the most closely followed offerings in the sector. The company's filing highlights a steep rise in income, but it also discloses sizeable losses and a range of global risks.

The company announced on Monday that it had filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission under Form S-1 for a planned sale of Class A common shares. Key details, including the number of shares and the offering price, have not been made public yet. Anthropic intends to list on the Nasdaq under the ticker ANT.

The Numbers Behind the Growth

According to the filing, Anthropic's revenue was $41 million in 2023, $386 million in 2024 and $4.6 billion in 2025. In the six months ended June 30, 2026, revenue rose to $16.3 billion. The company described this as a 1,300 percent increase from the previous year's comparable period.

At the same time, Anthropic said that investors should not expect this momentum to last. It acknowledged that it cannot promise revenue will keep growing at this pace, or grow at all, going forward.

Large Losses Continue

The company posted a net loss of $41.97 billion in 2025. For the first six months of 2026, the net loss reached $80.75 billion. The results show that, even with rapidly expanding sales, the company is still operating at a loss because of significant spending on investment and operations.

Banks and Governance

A group of major financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan, Citigroup, Barclays and Wells Fargo Securities, will lead the offering. Founded in 2021, Anthropic is a Public Benefit Corporation. Its Long-Term Benefit Trust can elect and remove most board members, and the filing calls this trust financially disinterested.

CEO Dario Amodei and President Daniela Amodei, along with five other co-founders, will retain special Class F stock through a founders entity.

Cloud and Chip Infrastructure

The company's services are available through Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. Its models are trained on a mix of hardware, including Amazon Trainium, Google TPU, Nvidia and AMD chips.

Limited Disclosure on India

The offering documents include little specific information about Anthropic's operations in India or its Indian customer base. The filing notes that the company's subsidiaries and operations are located in the UK, the European Union, Canada and the Asia-Pacific region, and that it has international offices in Europe and Asia-Pacific.

The sales restrictions section refers to India directly. It says the prospectus has not been, and will not be, reviewed or approved by any Indian regulatory authority, including the Securities and Exchange Board of India. Shares will not be offered to the public in India, except through private placement exemptions.

Immigration, Chips and Export Controls

Anthropic identified several risk factors. Stricter immigration policies and limits on the movement of technology talent could make hiring and retaining qualified staff difficult. The issue is especially relevant because the US tech industry depends heavily on Indian engineers working on H-1B visas.

The company said government actions on visas or immigration could affect both its workforce and its business. It also pointed out that most of the world's advanced semiconductor chips are manufactured in Taiwan, meaning geopolitical tensions between Taiwan and China could pose risks to its chip supply chain. Future US export controls, it added, could affect data center expansion, international growth and costs.

A Closely Watched Listing

The Anthropic IPO is widely viewed as one of the most talked-about share offerings in the history of AI. The company's revenue is growing at an extraordinary rate, but it is also facing heavy losses and significant global risks.
