BRICS summit to focus on inclusive governance, innovation and resilience

New Delhi will host the 18th BRICS summit on September 12‑13, bringing together leaders from Brazil, China, Russia, India, South Africa and other partners. The summit’s central theme, “Resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability,” underscores a commitment to inclusive global governance and multilateralism.

Key discussion points will include people‑centric development, expansion of trade and investment, strengthening financial and institutional cooperation, and reforms within the United Nations and international financial institutions. The meeting occurs amid ongoing wars in the Middle East and Ukraine and heightened great‑power competition, which have introduced new hurdles for the world economy and the Sustainable Development Goals.

A special session on “Strengthening inclusive global governance and multilateralism” will feature a dialogue titled “Resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability: Shaping the future of inclusive global development.” The two‑day event will culminate with a Delhi declaration.

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, accompanied by Ministers Ronald Lamola, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni and Deputy Minister Zuko Goudlmpi, will attend. He will also join the BRICS Business Forum Leaders Dialogue, where heads of state and business representatives will discuss supply‑chain resilience, agriculture, women‑led development, the digital economy and innovation. Participants from the BRICS Business Council and the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance aim to deepen commercial ties and explore fresh investment avenues.
