Consumer protection body orders removal of hazardous chemicals from digital platform

The Central Consumer Protection Authority has ordered Dial4Trade Technologies Private Limited to cease all online activities involving explosive substances. The order came after the authority confirmed that the platform listed ammonium nitrate without the required safety information, licence checks, or buyer eligibility verification.

Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, any product information displayed on a digital marketplace falls under the definition of “advertisement.” By promoting a regulated explosive as an ordinary consumer good, Dial4Trade violated the law and engaged in deceptive marketing practices. The CCPA’s notice also demanded the immediate removal of any other items classified as explosives under the Explosives Act, 1884.

The authority noted that while the company claimed to act merely as a B2B intermediary, it possessed the technical capability to block non‑compliant sellers and delete prohibited listings. Its failure to exercise this control resulted in the imposed penalty and the removal directive.
