ED Expands Investigation into Reliance Anil Ambani Firms Under PMLA and FEMA

The Enforcement Directorate is intensifying its scrutiny of the Reliance Anil Ambani group, pursuing investigations under both the Prevention of Money‑Laundering Act (PMLA) and the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Recent asset attachments amounting to 1,021 crore rupees have raised the total seized value under PMLA to 20,367 crore rupees.

The probe, which originated from FIRs filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation after banks raised concerns, uncovered the systematic diversion of 15,548 crore rupees of public funds through a complex web of shell and group companies. The latest attached assets include equity shares of Reliance Power Ltd held by Reliance Infrastructure Ltd and outstanding loan amounts from Sashan Power Ltd and Reliance Power Ltd.

Search operations have been conducted at more than 80 locations, yielding a wealth of incriminating documents, property records, and other evidence. Under FEMA, the ED has also attached assets worth 77.86 crore rupees.

To date, four enforcement case information reports (ECIRs) have been filed under PMLA and three under FEMA. Eight senior officials and close associates of the group have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody. The agency has constituted a Special Investigation Team to accelerate the ongoing investigations.
