Forex Session Shows Rupee Recovery After Three Consecutive Drops
After three consecutive trading sessions of decline, the Indian rupee halted its slide on Friday, opening at 96.31 per US dollar – a gain of four paise. The turnaround was driven by a weakening US dollar, as the dollar index fell to its lowest point in a month, lingering around 100.7. The softer dollar followed subdued inflation numbers in the United States, tempering expectations of a rapid Federal Reserve rate increase.
In the commodities arena, Brent crude rose 1.48% to $85.48 a barrel and WTI crude increased 1.60% to $80.0, while heightened US‑Iran tensions kept Brent near the $85 barrier, curbing broader market optimism. Asian equity markets posted declines, with Japan’s Nikkei falling over 4%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng down about 2%, and Shanghai’s Composite slipping more than 1%. Safe‑haven buying lifted gold prices, whereas silver saw a slight drop.
