FTA Set to Commence on October 20, 2026, Strengthening Bilateral Trade

The India‑New Zealand Free Trade Agreement is slated to enter into force on 20 October 2026, a date that coincides with the Indian festival of Vijayadashami. The commencement will activate a suite of tariff reductions, simplified customs procedures and enhanced investment protections designed to double bilateral trade by 2030, as pledged by Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Christopher Luxon.

Analysts expect the agreement to boost sectors such as agriculture, technology, and renewable energy. By removing trade barriers, exporters in both countries will gain easier access to each other’s markets, potentially creating new jobs and fostering greater economic resilience.
