Gold steadies, silver slides to sub‑₹2.4 lakh/kg as dollar index rises
Mumbai, September 22 – Tuesday’s session saw gold and silver trading in narrow corridors on the MCX. The Oct 5, 2026 gold contract opened at ₹1,53,497 per 10 g, barely below the previous close of ₹1,53,094. By 10 a.m. the price was ₹1,53,058, a small dip of ₹36 (0.02%). Throughout the day the metal’s range was ₹1,53,005 – ₹1,53,497 per 10 g.
Silver’s Dec 4, 2026 contract began at ₹2,40,529 per kg, up from ₹2,39,317 the day before. At the time of writing the price was ₹2,39,555 per kg, a rise of ₹238 (0.10%). The lowest and highest levels recorded were ₹2,39,400 and ₹2,40,529 per kg respectively.
Globally, COMEX gold slipped 0.23% to $4,347 per ounce, while silver rose 0.15% to $66 per ounce. Traders note that the Dollar Index crossing the 100‑point barrier has prompted mild profit‑taking in gold. Conversely, declining oil prices are keeping gold’s technical support near $4,250 per ounce intact.
With no significant US economic releases on the calendar, analysts expect gold to remain confined to $4,250‑$4,450 on COMEX and ₹1,51,000‑₹1,56,000 per 10 g on MCX, though short‑term volatility may continue.
