IMF projection shows India's per‑capita GDP lagging behind Bangladesh by 2026

Citing International Monetary Fund forecasts, Parameshwar warned that India’s per‑capita GDP could stand at $2,813 in 2026, slightly below Bangladesh’s projected $2,911. The gap underscores the paradox of rapid overall growth alongside modest earnings for the average citizen.

He urged the centre to clarify how a 7‑8% annual growth translates into tangible income gains for young adults who struggle to secure jobs commensurate with their skills. Parameshwar also noted that families with limited purchasing power are increasingly vulnerable to inflation and wage stagnation.

The deputy chief stressed that true prosperity must be inclusive, with growth reflected in higher household disposable income, stronger social safety nets and broader access to quality employment.
